The Medical School of the Sofia Medicine University is the oldest Medical School in Bulgaria. The first classes began in April 1918.
The level of studies in the Medical School is constantly being updated and the analytical study material is continually being modernized and adapted to new medical breakthroughs. Until today more than 35.000 doctors have graduated from the University.
The studies at the Medical School are structured in three stages that last six years.
- The first stage is the proclinical education (two years) and it provides the essential general knowledge of biology and medicine, setting the base of the medical education of the students.
- The second stage is the clinical education (three years), at which the students are trained for diagnosis and cure of illnesses.
- The third stage is the undergraduate internship (one year), which is carried out at university hospitals, multiclinic dispensaries and laboratories. Its aim is the application of the theoretical knowledge that has been acquired on patients and the acquirement of experience on application.
The undergraduate internship is completed with state exams and those who have succeeded receive a Master’s Degree and the title Medical Doctor, with the right to practice general medicine.
The Medical School also offers English-speaking classes for foreign students.
The studies in the English language are acknowledged by the Bulgarian State, and according to European guidance, graduates are directly given their professional rights to all member states of the European Union. Thus they can practice the corresponding exercise specialization, without taking exams, in any member-state they choose and get their license to practice.
The tuition fees for each academic year in English-speaking classes are 8.000 euros and are paid in two installments, at the beginning of each semester.Way of admission: Test in English, Biology and Chemistry.
